AMD has officially lifted the embargo on its new X870 motherboards, aimed at delivering top-tier performance for system builders and gamers alike. These boards are designed to pair seamlessly with the new Ryzen 9000 series CPUs, which were launched in August.
The X870 series boards come equipped with advanced features like PCIe 5.0, DDR5-8000 memory, and USB 4.0, offering a significant leap in connectivity and speed for both gaming and content creation.
Pricing for these motherboards varies based on brand and features, starting at $199.99 for ASRock’s X870 Pro RS, making it the most budget-friendly option at launch. Other popular models, such as the ASUS Prime X870-P, start at $249.99, and more premium variants like the MSI X870E Carbon can go as high as $499.99.
These prices put the X870 boards in direct competition with Intel’s upcoming LGA-1851 platform, which may influence future price adjustments.

While the initial focus is on high-end boards like the X870 and X870E, mid-range options such as the B850 and B840 are expected to arrive later. For now, the launch lacks Mini-ITX or Micro-ATX designs, but these are confirmed to be in development.
Enthusiasts looking for extreme overclocking options may also need to wait, as specialized OC boards have not yet been released.
AMD has greatly expanded its motherboard chipset family and it is wise to wait a little more before making any purchase. Intel is also releasing its Z890 motherboards for its LGA-1851 platform.
